In the heart of Ngada district, at 1100 meters high, Bajawa is a small town where you can find tradition, spirituality and all the charm of Indonesia. Moreover, Bajawa is a good starting point for new diverse and unique adventures.
From Bajawa, you can go to the traditional villages of Wogo (and its megalithic ancestral tombs) and Bena which provides a spectacular sight on the Inerie volcano. You will also be able to attend Indonesian dance spectacles or simulated fight between fearsome warriors.
Bajawa – natural volcanic springs
You will also be able to have a relaxing time at the several waterfalls of the region. The most attractive one is the Malanage Hot Springs where hot volcanic water mixes with cold water river. Your position in the water will allow you to regulate the temperature by yourself, but be careful with mistakes, the water can be very hot in some places. Also go to the magnificent location proposed by the hot springs of Mangeruda whose water has curative virtue for the skin and restful for the soul.
If you travel with us, no worries, this is part of the schedule. But if you go by yourself, we recommend to find someone to bring you to Mount Wolobobo at sundown to see one of the most amazing sunsets in the world.
For amateurs of traditions, don’t hesitate to have a walk through the village when you wake up around 6/6 :30 am (sun goes down at 6pm and rises at 6am, so you will take the right pace in only one night). You will quickly see everything by seeing wood houses with wonderful colors and their always smiling habitants. And if your timing is right, as said before, you will see dozens of children in uniform happily going to school. Do not miss it!
